For the last week, most of the Portes du Soleil has been notably bereft of snow. With the exception of Avoriaz, which has operated around 90% of its pistes, the popular resorts of Morzine and Les Gets have been waiting patiently for a nice dump to start their season with. To their credit, the pisteurs and resort staff have done a great job managing the snow and getting guests up to Avoriaz from their accommodation.
Geneva airport will likely be a bitter-sweet place today, with holiday makers leaving resort disappointed that the snow they had been hoping for has finally arrived on transfer day. Conversely, anyone coming in to resort today will be excited with the prospect of being met with 20cm-30cm fresh snow this weekend. It’s definitely snowing, getting heavier and not forecast to stop for at least 24 hours. We can normally see the Pléney lift from the Onyx apartment, but now we can barely see across the street. Here are a couple of pictures from Morzine town center I took on this morning’s constitutional.
