Reading the snow pack is an art form and anyone who has attended a backcountry or off piste course knows exactly what we’re talking about.

Black Diamond, a company famous for mountaineering and backcountry equipment, have recently launched their own web series with episodes going live periodically building towards the season.

Episode 2 features Drew Hardesty, an avalanche forecaster to Utah’s Wasatch Mountains and general all round mountain legend! He makes the decisions that provide the snowpack information we use to help make safety decisions about our backcountry snowboarding adventures.

Here Drew shares his thoughts and a message that will hopefully change the way we all think when snowboarding in the backcountry this season, highlighting that our decisions can have further reaching consequences to others.

For all your backcountry snowboarding and split boarding adventures this winter in Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets, be sure to check out our courses here.
