Montana State University is leading the field of avalanche research thanks to its state of the art Subzero Lab!
This video is a few years old but does an excellent job of highlighting how engineers and scientists are studying this facility to model and study the snowpack, with the ability control nearly every variable including sunlight (including movement), temperature, humidity.
Their research has a huge impact on how avalanche risk is calculated and forecast, helping us make even clearer decisions regarding our trips into the backcountry. This video is well worth 10 mins of your time 🙂
